About Us
The Friendsville Utility Department was established in March 1965 following the City of Friendsville's approval for a $281,000 public facility loan. This initiative was launched to provide residents with safe, reliable drinking water and to support the growth of our small community.
A major expansion of the original water system occurred in 1978 with the construction of an 8-inch water main connecting South Blount Utility District to Friendsville. Today, our infrastructure includes approximately 100 miles of water mains ranging in size from 2 to 8 inches, two pump stations, and three storage tanks with a combined capacity of 871,000 gallons.
We currently serve 2,179 customers, representing an estimated 5,000 people with an average daily water demand of 327,000 gallons.
The Department employs four full-time staff members, including certified distribution system operators and certified municipal finance officers licensed by the State of Tennessee. We are proud to partner with the Friendsville Volunteer Fire Department for fire suppression services and have installed more than 70 fire hydrants throughout the system to enhance fire protection and help reduce homeowners’ insurance costs.
