Responsibility Board of Commissioners
Serving on the City of Friendsville's Board of Commissioners is a voluntary and honorable commitment to public service. Commissioners are not paid for their time or service; they choose to serve out of a genuine dedication to their community and its future.
Each Commissioner takes an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the laws of the State of Tennessee, and the charter and ordinances of the City of Friendsville. This oath reflects their deep responsibility to act with integrity, fairness, and transparency on behalf of all citizens.
Commissioners are entrusted with making important decisions that shape city policy, guide development, manage resources, and ensure the well-being of Friendsville’s residents. Their role requires active participation, careful judgment, and a willingness to listen to the community while upholding the highest standards of public accountability.
In accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated, all elected municipal officials are required to complete annual educational training hours. This ongoing training helps ensure that Commissioners remain well-informed about their legal, ethical, and operational responsibilities, enhancing their ability to serve effectively and responsibly.
Despite receiving no compensation, they serve with a strong sense of duty, working to strengthen Friendsville for today and for generations to come.
Their service is a testament to civic pride, community leadership, and the enduring value of local democracy.
Responsibility of the Mayor
The Mayor of Friendsville serves as the elected leader and representative of the City, a role that carries significant responsibility. This voluntary public service reflects a strong commitment to leadership and the well-being of the community.
As the chief elected official, the Mayor presides over City Commission meetings, helps guide local policy, and works closely with city staff and officials to ensure effective governance and service delivery. The Mayor also represents the City at public events, regional discussions, and in coordination with other government entities.
In addition to these duties, Tennessee Code Annotated requires elected municipal officials to complete annual educational training hours. This training ensures the Mayor remains informed on legal, ethical, and operational responsibilities, helping uphold high public service standards.
The Mayor is expected to lead with integrity, foster transparency, and advocate for the best interests of all Friendsville residents. Even without compensation, the Mayor dedicates time, energy, and heart to serving the city, motivated by a sincere desire to help Friendsville grow stronger, safer, and more vibrant for everyone.
